FEYENOORD DROPS POINTS BUT REMAIN NO. 1

Feyenoord remains the number one in the Dutch league despite dropping points.

The Dutch giant played a 1-1 draw with archrivals Ajax. A late Dirk Kuyt equalizer was the saviour. The former Liverpool striker converted his chance to cancel out a Kasper Dolberg's opener in the game played at De Kuip.

Dolberg – the Danish teenage football star – got the match opener in the 55th minute as he lifted the ball over the goalkeeper Brad Jones. Joel Veltman was the man that provided him with the through ball. Feyenoord were not dismayed. Rather, they kept pushing relentlessly. They got the much awaited equalizer five minutes from the end of the game.

Substitute Eljero Elia sent a well-times cross to Kuyt who headed it home. After the referee called time on the game, Feyenoord were happier asit meant they were still five points clear of Ajax. The Rotherdam-based outfit has garnered 28 points from ten games, Ajax are in second place, while Heerenveen placed third with 21 points. PSV Eindoven have the same number of points but have a lower goals difference.

PSV defeated Heracles 3-1 but it was not enough to earn them third place. Stefano Marzo got a goal in the first twenty minutes, but Brandley Kuwas equaled the score line minutes from the end of the first half. After the break, goals from Sam Larsson and Jeremiah St Juste ensured the hosts won convincingly.

In another match, Groningen thrashed AZ Alkmaar 2-0. Brian Linssen and Tom van Weert scored first half goals that put the game beyond Alkmaar. Linssen connected to a cross from Hans Hateboer while Van Weert scored through a header.

NEC Nijmegen got a draw at a home late into the game against Vitesse Arnhem. The visitors went ahead in the first half through Navarone Foor. Vitesse Arnhem seemed sure to get all three points until the equalizer from Dario Dumic minutes from the final whistle.
